- It is important for us to be represented internationally and inform about the CRISP philosophy when it comes to developing sustainable and responsible fishing methods. For our industry partners it is important to present their innovations and products to potentially new markets. In addition, it is important for us to follow trends and developments in other parts of the world, as well as networking with other research clusters outside Norway, says CRISP manager Aud Vold.

WFC was first held in 1991 in Athens, Greece. Since then, the conference which is arranged by the nonprofit organization World Council of Fisheries Societies where also ICES is a member, has been held in various countries around the world at various intervals.

In the session «Advances in fishing technology in support of sustainable management» CRISP was represented with four presentations. Aud Vold presented the CRISP philosophy and how the centre operates. Maria Tenningen lecture was on observations of school dynamics under purse seine fisheries. Scantrol Deep Vision leader Hege Hammersland-White presented application of the Deep Vision system for research purposes as well as commercial fishing. And finally in this session, Tony Algrøy from Simrad presented their latest innovations in acoustic pre-catch species identification of fish.

In addition, Lars Nonboe Andersen from Simrad presented in another session named «New technologies in fisheries surveys».

- The audience showed great interest in our presentations, reports Vold.
